Meet Russell

Innovative, inventive and disruptive are all adjectives that could be used to describe both Russell Burge and the products he manages. The biochemist joined Labcyte in 2017, after several years developing applications for pharmaceutical and automation systems at various companies.

What is your role at Labcyte?

I am currently a Product Manager. I manage all of the software products that run the Echo Liquid Handlers. I am involved in every stage of our products, from corporate strategy and initial product development, through R&D, customer input, marketing, product launch, training and assisting my colleagues in the field once we commercialize the product.

What brought you to Labcyte?

I have an extensive background as a scientist and product developer. In fact, I am a co-inventor on numerous patents. Naturally, Labcyte attracted my interest because we develop innovative and disruptive products. Another major advantage to me is that my colleagues are outstanding, which makes our collaborative projects both productive and enjoyable.

What’s the best part of your job?

I love the challenge of developing products that solve problems our customers face every day. I enjoy seeing how all of our efforts come together to provide valuable solutions for our customers. The absolute best part of this job is watching customers find more applications and uses for our products than we had imagined.

What do you do outside of work?

I enjoy hiking and birding.

If you could cure any disease, what would it be and why?

Alzheimer’s is a disease that we must soon conquer. There are many people who are currently stricken with this disease, and as global populations age, it will affect many more of us and our families. It is distressing to see minds and intellects that took many decades to develop later fall into an irreparable disease state, which often occurs in people that are otherwise physically healthy.

Who is your favorite influencer and why?

Bill and Melinda Gates. Their philanthropy work is an inspiration to us all.

What’s your best career advice?

Work hard, be passionate, learn as much as you can, and enjoy your career.
