Meet Marianna

A proud West Virginia native and WVU graduate, Marianna Mott covers the Mountain State – and six others – as Account Manager for the Mid-Atlantic/South region.

What is your role at Labcyte?

As a salesperson, I strive to build awareness of Labcyte’s solutions for acoustic liquid handling and automation. I prospect for new potential customers, build relationships with existing customers, and work with a big team of Labcyte colleagues, both in headquarters and in the field: HR, marketing, product development, applications, management, applications scientists, service engineers and other account managers.

What did you do before joining Labcyte?

I was an account manager for several other genomics/molecular biology firms, including Perkin Elmer, QIAGEN and Bioneer.

What brought you to Labcyte?

I was totally wowed by the Echo when it was demonstrated to me by John Fuller. Despite my many years in the field, I had never even heard of the Echo. I began thinking, who else has not heard of the Echo and could really benefit from it? I thought the acoustic technology was super exciting and I really wanted to be part of the Labcyte team.

What’s the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is seeing the reaction of a person when they see the Echo in action. You can almost see the wheels turning in their head of how they could utilize the Echo for new applications or to eliminate some of their issues like costs, time, reproducibility, repeatability and increased throughput. This is super fun!

If you could cure any disease, what would it be and why?

I would love to see a cure for cancer or at least a move towards personalized treatment, to reduce the suffering and the unknowns that the patient has to endure. I guess you could say that Labcyte is playing a role in making this happen now. This makes me happy to be a part of this adventure.

What do you do outside of work?

I love to cook, fish, ski, and take long drives just to see the sights. I also love going to yard sales.

Who is your favorite influencer and why?

I guess my biggest influencers were my parents, for they allowed me to make my own choices; even at an early age, they allowed me to choose what I wanted to eat from a menu. I was able to begin working at an early age too, because we had a pizza shop. You could say that this was the motivation to jump start my career.

Our Sunday drives were always an adventure. We never knew what or where we were going to see – it all depended on road signs for county fairs, carnivals, “Smallest Church,” etc. All of these things taught me to try new things, work hard, do the right thing, and enjoy life by having fun!

What’s your best career advice?

• Always do the best you can do, and put your heart into it.
• Never quit one job before you get another.
• Be respectful.
• Listen to all advice and ideas so that you can make good decisions while sharing yours too.
• Always be learning to improve yourself and your skills.
• Don’t be afraid to change what you do, where you work, or who you work for.
• Enjoy what you do!
